About Marina Montessori
Marina Montessori accepts children between the ages of 2 years and 7 years. Preference normally will be given to children who are under 4 years of age at the time of admission. All children must be toilet trained. Children who qualify by age for elementary school will be considered for our elementary program after a transcript review, a consultation between teacher and parents, and an informal interview between teacher and child. All children must meet all the Health requirements of the state. The school is open from 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Monday - Friday. We provide Day Care before & after school 7:00-8:30 AM & 2:30-5:30 PM. During the hours of 8:30 AM & 2:30 PM we offer a full Montessori curriculum of Reading, Writing, Math, Language, Science, Music etc.
For each class there is a certified Montessori teacher and an assistant. The teaching staff is headed by Noeline Corea who has directed and taught in montessori classrooms for over 27 years. She is an AMI trained and certified teacher who founded Marina Montessori School in 1990.
If you look around the classroom you will see two things that make this environment unique. The first is that the activities have been designed for independent use. For example, trays and baskets have everything that a child needs to complete a particular activity. The child is not waiting for the teacher because the teacher does her important work, preparing the environment, before the child comes into the classroom. In a Montessori enviornment or classroom we feel that too many adults in the environment can interfere with the children’s productivity. If you have visited a non-Montessori classroom you may have seen the adults doing the clean-up or putting the children’s work away. Look around our Montessori classroom and see how many of the children function with some degree of independence. You will see adults working with the children, not for them and you will see children helping one another. A child may be giving a lesson to another, a tall one may be turning off the water for a short one, or one may be helping tie another’s shoes. This is unique to the Montessori environment and is made possible by the age range in the classroom and the fostering of independence.
